Shannon MacCourt

Hello, my name is Shannon and I’ve been a midwife for over 10 years. I'm originally from Canada, but trained as a midwife in New Zealand and I am well settled in beautiful Aotearoa. I consider it a privilege to support women and families through the incredible experience of bringing a new baby into their lives. With a strong partnership between myself and the families I care for, I am there to provide guidance and support. My role is to provide the advice and expertise needed to inform women’s choices, to help them navigate the maternity system, and ensure that they and their babies remain safe throughout. I primarily support women to birth at home, including the option of waterbirth if desired. I believe pregnancy is a normal, healthy life stage, and am passionate about helping women to birth without unnecessary interference. However, I realise that some women plan to birth in hospital for various reasons, and therefore I also happily provide antenatal and postnatal care for women birthing at Middlemore.
