About me
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am a caseload midwife employed by Te Whatu Ora Southern. I provide care throughout Northern Southland & Fiordland. Within the caseload team, I can offer you continuity of midwifery care throughout your pregnancy, labour & birth, and up to 6 weeks after baby's birth. The care I provide is confidential, focused on your individual needs & respectful of your decisions and beliefs. My aim as a midwife is to facilitate a safe, empowering & positive childbirth journey for each family I work with. I believe that an important part of this process is information sharing & informed choice, to enable you to make decisions that you feel are best for you & your baby. On a personal level, I emigrated from Wales to rural Southland, 26 years ago. My husband & I have two adult children. I am an experienced health professional of 29 years, in a range of specialties including neonatal nursing, rural practice nursing, PRIME response, community & hospital midwifery and midwifery management.
Please contact me via this portal if you would like to discuss booking your care under the caseload team. We carry out pregnancy check ups at both the Lumsden maternity hub and the Te Anau maternity hub every week. Urgent assessments will be undertaken in a clinical setting that will best meet your clinical needs. Women who are planning a home birth will also receive a birth-plan visit at home (around 34-36 weeks of pregnancy) to discuss set up of your birth space. Once you have birthed your baby, routine care is undertaken in your home environment.
