My name is Rachel, and I’m part of the well-established Rata Midwives team.

I grew up in Southland, and my passion for midwifery began after the births of my three boys. As a mother and a partner to a wonderfully supportive man, I understand the importance of having a strong, trusted support system during pregnancy and birth.

My approach is centred on empowering you to make informed choices, sharing evidence-based information, and respecting your autonomy in decision-making. As a primary care-focused midwife, I support births at home or in primary birthing settings and believe strongly in your body’s natural ability to birth. However, I also recognise when additional support may be needed and transfer to tertiary care if necessary.

It’s a privilege to be part of such a significant time in your life, and I am committed to creating a memorable, positive and empowering journey together.

I am often in arranged appointments or births these are important one-on-one times that should not be disrupted.
