Hi, I’m Sylvia. To me; midwifery is grounded in the principles of health and well being. I feel confident working with women from all cultural backgrounds and enjoy their diversity and knowledge. I believe that partnership with the woman and her whānau throughout her pregnancy and birth involves mutual respect, communication, and trust. Through my own childbirth experiences I came to understand the unpredictability of birth and the choices women can face. I feel the women who do require medical intervention during birth deserve the same support and admiration as women who don’t, and to feel empowered and at peace with their experiences of birth. I listen, encourage, support and help to provide you with the information you need to make the right choices for you. I work with Garden City Midwives, we are epidural certified, happy to support you in whatever birthing environment you are comfortable with: At home, One of the Primary Units or ChCh Women’s Hosp. I have been a midwife for over 11 years now :). I work from home in Beckenham, and have clinics usually on a Mon, Tues, and Wed morning, but can be flexible if needed.
